The Walmart Line Dilemma

Walmart checkout stands are usually stacked two deep.

I’ve always thought that one line should filter into both checkout stands. This would allow a cleaner flow of traffic and reward those who stand in line longer.

This works in theory.

In reality, most people will jump to the second checkout stand if it looks like a shorter wait.

I think Walmart needs to give some direction on this. I always feel awkward jumping to the distant, shorter line. However, everyone else is doing it, and I’m not about to be their bitch.

  1. Ironically, I was at Walmart today and I did run into a problem checking out. I was in one line and jumped to another, only to find out that it was an old lady (who had to have dementia on some level) and it took her forever to go through the “self checkout” line. I really think there should be an age limit for people using these. All senior citizens seem to clueless as to how those systems worked. Short story long, I jumped to yet another line and the machine kept denying all my credit cards, which I knew was a mistake because I had just looked at my back stament online a few hours prior and it was fine. I had to have one of the retard checkers help me out. (my card is worn and doesnt scan well) It took her two seconds to get me checked out and there was a line of people behind me, obviousy agitated. I thanked everyone for their patience as I left.

    • Wow, the old lady schooled you on the self checkout. That has to be humbling.

  2. You are 100% right. This has always been a very frustrating issue for me whenever I go to Walmart but since everyone else seems to have no problem with the chaos that is the Walmart check out I thought I was the only one who felt this way. Thank you for reassuring me that I am not the only crazy one out there and for saying what needed to be said.

Also, I was told to let you know that Sinbad sent me.

  3. This is on my list of things to blog about but Home Depot is also terrible.

At least the one on Bannister loves to have only self checkout lanes open. I have yet to get through a self checkout there or see anyone else without the assistance of the staff. You can’t self scan a 2×4 or a piece of chain or rope or 90% of the things I buy at home depot.

Also the return policy only allows for store credit in the form of gift cards and these don’t work well in the self checkout stations. I think I have had to call over the staff 3 times in one checkout session.

It’s just too bad I hate Lowes too much to go there.
